The son of a senior Eastern Cape politician has been arrested for theft from a Bisho ministerial residence, the Dispatch Online reported on Monday.
It said the grade-10 student (19) is suspected of breaking into the ministerial-complex home of MPL Pemmy Majodina at the Easter weekend. Apparently, he stole goods worth R5 000, including DVDs, a laptop and cellphones.
The youth is the son of another MPL, and lives with his mother at her Bisho ministerial home.
Police said he and a friend were arrested at Bika township in Butterworth on Friday. A third suspect, also a friend, escaped.
Also found were goods stolen from Majodina, who is also the African National Congress’s provincial deputy secretary and chairperson of the public works standing committee.
Police Captain Thozama Solani said the two young men confessed to selling the laptop in East London, where police later found it in a dustbin outside the buyer’s home.
The pair were expected to appear in the Zwelitsha Magistrate’s Court on Monday. — Sapa
