Report: ANC members to take party to court

More members of the African National Congress (ANC) in the Free State are planning to take on the leadership of provincial party leader Ace Magashule in court, the Volksblad reported on Friday.

Members of four more ANC regions are expected to apply for court interdicts to stop ANC ward meetings, where delegates for the party’s regional conferences are chosen.

This comes at a time when the ANC will hold its national policy conference in June and the party’s national conference towards the end of the year.

Free State delegates for these conferences must be appointed.

According to the report, allegations were made of intimidation and disrespect of the ANC’s constitution in the organising and holding of ANC ward meetings.

At these meetings delegates are chosen to attend the regional conferences.

Members in the Fezile Dabi region have already asked the Bloemfontein High Court for an interim interdict against Magashule, the party’s provincial secretary Charlotte Lobe and other leaders in the region.

Members in the other four regions, Motheo (Bloemfontein), Xhariep (southern Free State), Thaba Mofutsanyana (eastern Free State) and Lejweleputswa (western Free State) want to bring the new application, the Volksblad reported.

Magashule was not immediately available for comment on Friday afternoon. — Sapa
