Dagga worth R1m found in car

Gauteng’s Vaal Rand police arrested a man after 55 refuse bags filled with dagga were found in his car on Sunday.

The stash was estimated to have a street value of R1-million, Superintendent Maria Mazibuko said.

Police began pursuing a man driving a Toyota Corolla at about 9am in Sebokeng. After the Sasolburg police and the Vaal Rand flying squad had joined the pursuit, the man eventually abandoned his car along the Golden Highway and ran into Boitumelo, near Meyerton.

Police cornered the 30-year-old there and arrested him.

During the car chase he struck a five-year-old boy. The child was taken to Sebokeng Hospital with minor injuries.

The man is due to appear in the Sebokeng Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday on a charge of dealing in dagga. — Sapa
