The Gauteng transport department is playing double standards with the new number-plate system, the Democratic Alliance (DA) said on Friday.
DA’s transport spokesperson James Swart said it is not clear how much the new number plates will cost motorists.
Swart said the new system might have advantages, but these are not apparent as the whole project has been done in secret.
He said this plan was conceived outside of the legislature’s committees and was revealed in a misleading, passing reference in the provincial minister’s budget speech.
”There has been little explanation and that which there has been, has been confusing, he said.
The Gauteng department of transport was not immediately available for comment. — Sapa
