Chris Harmse, Africa’s leading hammer thrower, recorded a good win at the Folksam Grand Prix in Karlskrona, Sweden, on Monday. His winning distance of 75,05m was his best of 2007 and better than the B qualifying distance for this year’s World Championships in Osaka.
His next competition before returning to South Africa will be at an African Grand Prix meeting in Algiers later this week. As most hammer events in Europe’s major invitation meetings take place on Sundays, Harmse’s agent, Peet van Zyl, finds it extremely difficult to get meetings for him as Harmse does not take part on Sundays. — Sapa
