Ramp meters will be installed on four interchanges on the N1 freeway this month, the South African National Roads Agency Limited (Sanral) said on Wednesday.
Spokesperson Priya Pillay said the ramp meter would control the flow of traffic onto the freeway, part of which is also known as the Ben Schoeman Highway, and was expected to improve traffic flow.
The stop-and-go traffic signals would regulate the flow of traffic entering freeways.
The ramp metering was part of the ”Intelligent Transport System” launched in October last year to aid traffic flow.
Ramp meters will be installed on the Samrand South bound, Rooihuiskraal South bound and on New Road North and South bound interchanges on the N1 – Sapa
