The mayor of the Govan Mbeki municipality in Mpumalanga, arrested in connection with the murder of his deputy, will make a bail application next Friday, police said.
Sipho Nkosi made a brief appearance in the Evander Magistrate’s Court on Friday and his bail application was postponed to August 17, Superintendent Sibongile Nkosi said.
A busload of people attended the hearing in support of Nkosi, she said.
He allegedly hired assassins to kill Thandi Mtsweni, who was shot dead when she arrived at her home in Leslie on June 27.
This emanated from a statement made by another person arrested, Florence Lukhele.
Lukhele will appear in court on August 14 and Madoda Nkhambule (49), Sikhosiphe Gwala (42), Themba Ntombela (30) and Neo Moloi (36), also arrested, will appear on August 22. — Sapa
