Two speeding motorists caught with laser jammers in their cars have been charged with exceeding the speed limit and defeating the ends of justice too, Johannesburg metro police said on Sunday.
The two were among 37 motorists arrested for speeding in the city over the weekend, said Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar.
He said the laser jammers made it difficult for cameras to record the speed of cars.
One of the motorists was behind the wheel of a red Peugeot caught travelling 168km/h. The other was the driver of a white Mercedes Benz trapped doing 154km/h.
Minnaar said 22 of the arrests were made in Comaro Street, in Glenvista, on Friday and 15 on the N14, near Muldersdrift, on Sunday. They included seven motorcyclists.
They are expected to appear in court on Monday — the 15 arrested on Sunday in the Krugersdorp Magistrate’s Court and the rest in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court. – Sapa
