Still no certainty on Lotto date

Five months after the suspension of the Lotto, Trade and Industry minister Mpahlwa is yet to announce the date when it is to resume.

Mpahlwa’s spokesperson, Vukani Mde, on Monday said the minister still had not made any announcement.

”The minister has been outside the country for the past few days and will only get the opportunity to ask him this afternoon,” he said.

However, Mde said that all the necessary work around the Lotto had already been concluded.

”All that is left is for the minister to announce the date when the Lotto would resume,” he said.

Mpahlwa suspended the Lotto on March 31, hours before the Uthingo licence to run it expired.

The suspension came after the Pretoria High Court reversed the awarding of the new lottery licence to the Gidani consortium on March 5, saying the process had been flawed. — Sapa
