An oil tanker truck rolled down a hill and smashed into four minibuses in Kenya, killing 29 people and injuring more than 30, police said on Friday.
The tanker’s driver had stopped to refuel on Thursday when the vehicle started rolling, police chief Grace Kaindi said in Kisii, about 270km west of the capital, Nairobi.
Hospitals were treating dozens and the death toll was expected to rise.
”We cannot proportion the blame for the accident on anybody until investigations are complete,” Kaindi said.
On Tuesday, another crash in the area killed 22 people when the bus they were travelling in rammed head-on into a truck.
Road accidents are common in much of Africa, where poor road conditions coupled with badly maintained vehicles make for dangerous conditions. — Sapa-AP
