Ajax scrape home against Cosmos

Ajax Cape Town’s Brazilian defender Edwardo Ferreira scored the lone goal in his side’s victory over Jomo Cosmos in a Premier Soccer League (PSL) game at Newlands on Sunday.

Ferreira was also a tower of strength in the Ajax defence, working well with Clayton Jagers, Bryce Moon and Brett Evans.

The game was a somewhat stop-start affair for most of the first half and referee Harry Lekitlane had a busy time coping with fouls and other infringements.

The first half ran an extra six minutes because of stoppages. Cosmos’ Morgan Gould was red carded in the 40th minute after picking up his second yellow card.

Cosmos, even with their more direct approach, could not trouble Hans Vonk in goal

For Cosmos, Bhamuza Sono and Davies Mwape worked hard but failed to inspire their teammates. Mwape had some good runs down the right flank

The lone goal came in the 63rd minute when Ferreira was in the mix in the penalty area to meet a corner kick and burgle the points.

In another PSL game played on Sunday, Bloemfontein Celtic collected three valuable points when they beat AmaZulu 1-0 in a game played at Princess Magogo Stadium. The score was 0-0 at the interval. — Sapa
