Hong Kong prison clerk steals inmates’ girlfriends

A prison clerk in Hong Kong who dated inmates’ girlfriends by hacking into a computer to get their phone numbers has been sentenced to community service, a news report said on Saturday.

Ng King-tong (30), a clerical officer in charge of prisoners’ visits, used the computer system at the Lai Chi Kok jail to track down pretty female visitors and phone them for dates.

He managed to contact seven women and dated a number of them after repeatedly hacking the prison computer in May and June last year. He later married one of the women he had dated.

Ng pleaded guilty to eight counts of accessing a computer with criminal or dishonest intent and was sentenced at a hearing on Friday to perform 120 hours of community service, the South China Morning Post reported.

At the hearing in Kowloon City Court, Ng said he had a limited social circle and was tormented at the sight of ”young and beautiful girls” visiting inmates at the jail where he worked.

He began calling them and sending messages to them on their birthdays and later went on dates with a number of them. He now faces disciplinary proceedings at work.

At Friday’s hearing, the magistrate told Ng that his offence was serious because he had abused his position of trust to access confidential information. — Sapa-dpa
