Eskom has issued a warning that there is a high probability of load shedding on Friday morning.
This was due to a shortage of generating capacity, the parastatal said.
However, the situation was expected to improve by midday.
”Eskom is currently using all emergency resources to make up for the shortage. We appeal to consumers to assist by using electricity sparingly in order to reduce the demand and therefore minimise the risk of load shedding,” the power utility said.
Businesses were urged to turn off all non-essential lighting and office equipment during the day. Residential consumers were encouraged to switch off their geysers and non-essential appliances.
Eskom’s managing director of system operations and planning, Erica Johnson, assured South Africans that the supply outlook for Saturday was ”good” and the public should not be concerned about being without power when the Rugby World Cup final was being played.
”There is an anticipated lower electricity demand during the weekend.”
She said Eskom joined all South Africans in supporting the Springboks in their final game. – Sapa
