Seven people were killed and seven others seriously injured in a head-on collision on the N12 near Fochville on Friday, North West police said.
Superintendent Louis Jacobs said the accident between a bakkie and a Toyota Condor occurred at about 4.45pm.
”The cause of the accident is not yet known, but we suspect a tyre might have burst and the bakkie went out of control and collided head-on with the oncoming car.”
The N12 between the Fochville crossing and Potchefstroom, which was closed after the accident, had since been reopened, Jacobs said.
Meanwhile, 22 passengers were injured when their bus crashed over the side of a bridge in Pretoria North on Friday, the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) reported. The bus was on its way to Hammanskraal.
The Jaws of Life had to be used to free passengers who were trapped inside the wreckage.
The injured were taken to Pretoria Academic Hospital, the SABC reported. — Sapa
