The KwaZulu-Natal derby between Thanda Royal Zulu and Lamontville Golden Arrows petered out to a 1-1 draw in their Premier Soccer League clash at Absa Stadium in Durban on Wednesday night.

Arrows led 1-0 at half-time.

Arrows took the lead when Siyabonga Sangweni blasted a low shot that beat Royal keeper Aime Kitenge in the 26th minute.

Royal Zulu replied in the 51st minute from the head of Serge ”Mavusana” Djiehoua, who converted from Ryan Botha’s corner kick. Arrows dominated the first half but missed a number of goal-scoring opportunities after Norman Smith, Thabiso Gopane and Abia Nale all failed to beat Kitenge.

Royal Zulu were more organised in the second half and they created a lot of chances. Their best fell to Djiehoua in the 50th minute, but his shot hit the crossbar with Arrows keeper Nkosana Maseko well beaten. — Sapa
