One child killed, another raped near Polokwane

A four-year-old boy was killed and a six-year-old girl was raped in Lebowa-Kgomo, near Polokwane, Limpopo police said on Sunday.

Captain Mamphaswa Seabi said the children had been at a spaza shop a few blocks away from their homes at about 6pm on Saturday when the attacks took place.

”[They] were taken by an unknown man into bushes nearby where he started sexually assaulting the girl. When the boy cried out the man slit his throat and disappeared,” said Seabi.

He said the girl — disorientated and covered in blood — ran out of the bushes crying, when she was noticed by people nearby.

Seabi said the girl had not been able to point out the exact location of the boy’s body, which was found later on Saturday night by the police and members of the community.

Social workers and doctors treated the girl at a local hospital.

By noon on Sunday the attacker was still at large. ‒ Sapa
