Tickets for Durban’s much-anticipated A1 Grand Prix (GP) went on sale at 9am on Friday and confident organisers expect the event to attract thousands of motorsport lovers in February next year.
”After the sell-out success of the first Durban A1 GP in January 2006 … we have aligned our ticket-pricing model and grandstand build model more closely to that very successful inaugural season,” South African A1 Vulindlela team general manager Mike Carroll said.
Event spokesperson Zenzile Hlongwane said a count of tickets sold would be made at the end of the day. She would not divulge how many tickets were available.
The A1 GP, now in its third season, takes place in Durban from February 22 to 24. It has been dubbed ”the Monaco of A1 GP” because it is the only street circuit where the track runs adjacent to the beach.
A crowd of at least 40 000 people is expected.
Ticket prices vary, but organisers have introduced an ”early bird” adult discount and special rates for children under 12 years old and the disabled. Prices start at R100 for adults and R60 for children.
There are four categories to choose from — platinum, gold, silver and bronze — for reserved grandstand seats, and general admission for fans in unreserved picnic areas. — Sapa
