ANC replaces chief whip

African National Congress (ANC) parliamentary Chief Whip Isaac Mogase was on Wednesday removed from his position by the party’s new leadership.

Briefing reporters after the party’s caucus met at Parliament, ANC secretary general Gwede Mantashe said Mogase would be replaced by ANC MP Nathi Mthethwa, who also chairs the minerals and energy portfolio committee.

Mantashe said caucus chairperson Vytjie Mentor had also been replaced, by ANC MP Ncumisa Nkondlo.

The changes were made to ensure there was a synergy between the party’s parliamentary leadership and its national leadership, Mantashe said.

”These changes are meant to reflect an intention to show that there is a link between the national executive committee and the party’s leadership in Parliament.” — Sapa
