A drunk driver on Friday admitted killing a South African rugby fan who was heading home in London after celebrating his team beating England in the World Cup final.
Jimmy Kateende (28), from New Malden in south-west London, admitted causing the death of Hugh Morton by driving without due care and attention while under the influence of alcohol.
Morton (34) was walking home through Wimbledon in south-west London early on October 21 when he was hit by a car. He was declared dead at the scene.
He had been at a pub in Wimbledon with his brothers, watching on television as South Africa won the World Cup at the Stade de France in Paris.
Kateende was remanded in custody following the brief hearing via video link at Kingston Crown Court and will be sentenced on February 29. — AFP
