Bulls beat Lions in mistake-riddled match

In a rugby match riddled with mistakes and plenty of kicking, the Bulls, in their second friendly match preparing for the Super 14 season, beat the Lions in their first outing of the season 28-14 in Windhoek on Saturday.

The Bulls led 14-7 at half-time.

The Lions, with Jaco Pretorius in brilliant form, at times showed good control and understanding of the new match laws and, with a little more practice, are going to be a team to watch.

Although clinching the win, the Bulls made many mistakes, were on the receiving end of most of the penalties and will have to get their act together before they take on the Stormers in their opening match.

Bryan Habana, Gurthro Steenkamp, Dewald Potgieter and Werner Kruger scored tries for the Bulls, while Pretorius accounted for both of the Lions’ tries.

Derrick Hougaard converted all four Bulls tries and Louis Strydom and Chris Jonck converted for the Lions. — Sapa
