Sundowns beat Arrows 2-1

Mamelodi Sundowns beat Lamontville Golden Arrows 2-1 in their Premier Soccer League clash at King Zwelithini Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

Sundowns led 1-0 at half-time.

Trott Moloto’s lads won with goals from Aldave Benitez in the 42nd minute and Fanyana Dhladhla in the 55th minute. Arrows got their consolation goal from a penalty taken by Papi ”Ginger” Zothwane in the 73rd minute when Downs midfielder Jorge Acuna fouled Thokozani Mshengu inside the box.

Arrows dominated the first half as they moved the ball on the ground but failed to break the heart of the Downs defence, marshalled by veteran Michael Manzini.

Godfrey Sapula almost scored in the 32nd minute but Nkosana Maseko, in goal for Arrows, showed some agility to block the shot, which resulted in a corner for the visitors.

Just before the end of the first half, a Zothwane shot was well saved by Calvin Marlin to deny Arrows the equaliser. — Sapa
