AmaZulu, Cosmos in goalless draw

AmaZulu and Jomo Cosmos played to a dull 0-0 draw in their Premier Soccer League clash at a packed King Zwelithini Stadium in Umlazi on Sunday afternoon.

The game started on a low note and both sides were cautious when attacking.

The first chance of the game went to Cosmos striker Reneilwe Letsholonyane, but his third-minute shot was parried away by Kalilio Kakonje in goals for AmaZulu.

AmaZulu forwards Dumisani Ngwenya and Siyabonga Mkwanazi both failed with attempts to open the scoring in the 26th and 37th minutes respectively after receiving good passes from the midfield.

Dikgang ”The Terminator” Mabalane almost put the visitors ahead but his shot went over Kakonje’s crossbar. Kakonje then denied Cosmos the lead after producing a some outstanding saves from numerous Nkosinathi Nhleko strikes.

Cosmos dominated most of the second half but Nhleko missed a handful of chances to break the deadlock.

AmaZulu almost collected maximum points as Pere Ariweriai’s shot hit the woodwork with Arvil Phali, in goals for Ezenkosi, well beaten on 89 minutes.

AmaZulu are still in the bottom half of the table with 28 points from 23 outings and Cosmos are second from the bottom with only 19 points from the same number of games. — Sapa
