Eagles trounce Pumas in Vodacom Cup

The Eagles saved their best for last when they trounced the Pumas 50-12 in a Vodacom Cup rugby match at George on Saturday. The match was only of academic value and neither side qualified for the cup play-offs.

The Eagles scored eight tries to the two of the Pumas, but had little to play for after the Wildebeest qualified in fourth place on the southern log on Friday night.

The Pumas’ standout player, Jacques Coetzee, opened the scoring when he intercepted to score and put his team 7-0 ahead after only three minutes, but it took more than 70 minutes for the Pumas to trouble the scorers again.

The rest of the afternoon belonged to the Eagles as they ran in several spectacular tries. — Sapa
