SuperSport United remain on top

SuperSport United remained on top of the Premier Soccer League table after a hard-fought 1-0 win against Orlando Pirates at the Johannesburg Stadium on Saturday night.

Elias Pelembe scored in the second minute to keep United in the hunt for a first league title. They now have 47 points from 25 games.

United looked to increase their lead but wayward finishing let them down.

Former Pirates striker Tefera Fikru tormented the hosts with his speed and clever runs. The Ethiopian flashed a header across the face of goal as Pirates struggled to get into their opponents’ half.

In the second half, the floodlights went out and play resumed after an unscheduled 25-minute break. Pirates came back strongly after the lights went on but United goalkeeper Andre Arendse was in fine form and stopped them from scoring.

SuperSport are now four points ahead of Ajax Cape Town, who play Moroka Swallows on Sunday. — Sapa
