Stars secure spot in top eight

Luis Renteria netted a 55th-minute penalty on Monday evening to give Platinum Stars a 1-0 win against Moroka Swallows and move from 10th to fifth place on the Premier Soccer League table.

Swallows goalkeeper Greg Etafia brought Stanley Kgatla down in the box and the referee did not hesitate to point to the spot.

Renteria sent Etafia the wrong way as he coolly slotted home the only goal in a lacklustre game.

Stars have 37 points and with this result pushed Swallows out of the top eight into ninth place.

The Birds have 36 points along with Orlando Pirates and Free State Stars, but due to a better goal difference the latter two clubs are in seventh and eighth place respectively. — Sapa
