J Arthur Brown in hospital after prison attack

Former Fidentia boss J Arthur Brown was examined by a doctor and a psychiatrist on Wednesday after being beaten up by fellow prisoners, the Times reported on Thursday.

Brown’s attorney, William Booth, said his client — accused of theft and fraud involving hundreds of millions of rands — had been moved to a private clinic in Cape Town on Tuesday.

”His assault injuries are quite serious,” said Booth.

Brown was attacked on Monday in the police van taking him to Pollsmoor Prison after his appearance in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court.

He appeared in court the next day with a cut and swollen face.

Scorpions investigators brought fresh charges against him last week. — Sapa
