South Africa captain Graeme Smith is likely to miss next month’s opening Test against England after sustaining a hamstring injury.
Smith (27) picked up the injury while playing in an Indian domestic league match and may have to sit out the opener at the Lord’s cricket ground starting on July 10.
”I’ve got a grade-two tear in my hamstring and it looks as though I will be out for at least four weeks, so I’m struggling to make Lord’s,” he told reporters late on Sunday.
The aggressive left-handed opener is slated to join his South Africa teammates in Johannesburg for a training camp before they leave for England for the four-Test series.
The South Africans will also play five one-dayers and a Twenty20 international during the tour. – AFP
