Gauteng police were investigating a case of murder on Monday after a man was set alight in Diepsloot.
Constable Patricia Simelane said the man, in his late 20s, was attacked on Sunday afternoon by residents.
”They accused him of stealing cash and a cellphone from another person on Saturday night,” she said.
The man, whose nationality was unknown, was doused with petrol before being set alight in the street.
He died from his injuries at the Tembisa Hospital on Monday.
”Police are investigating a case of murder. No arrests have been made,” said Simelane. — Sapa
