Robbers kill pregnant woman

An unknown number of armed men killed a 35-year-old pregnant woman in a suspected house robbery in the Bergvlei Complex in Villeria, Garsfontein, police said on Friday.

Inspector Susan Du Preez said the incident occurred at 3pm on Thursday.

The woman’s live-in partner found her with a head wound in bed when he returned home, said Du Preez.

”The complainant had arrived home and found the door open — he alerted his neighbour. While searching the house, they found the 35-year-old woman in her bed with a head wound. She had been hit with a blunt object,” Du Preez said.

Paramedics attempted to save the woman and her baby, but they died, said Du Preez.

The robbers had gathered together electrical appliances, but did not take them, she said.

”They fled the scene with the complainant’s black Mercedes Benz,” said Du Preez.

The car was later found abandoned in Soshanguve at 8pm.

Police are investigating cases of armed robbery and murder, said Du Preez. — Sapa
