The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has denied a media report that suspended news head Snuki Zikalala might be reinstated on Friday, a spokesperson said.
Kaizer Kganyago said he did not know anything about the possible reinstatement.
”I don’t know anything about it. He is not at the SABC today and I don’t know where you are getting this from,” he said.
The Times newspaper reported that a special meeting of the SABC board had been convened to consider a lawyer’s opinion on the legality of Zikalala’s suspension.
Zikalala was suspended in May by SABC group CEO Dali Mpofu, who was himself subsequently suspended by the broadcaster’s board.
Zikalala and the broadcaster’s management are expected to attend a Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) hearing on Monday.
”As far as I know, the CCMA meeting is on Monday,” Kganyago said.
Zikalala applied for the hearing to discuss what he termed an ”unfair labour practice”. — Sapa
