Pieter Uys has been announced as the new CEO of mobile services provider Vodacom.
Uys, a 15-year veteran of the group and the current chief operating officer, will take over from Alan Knott-Craig on October 1 2008.
Uys joined the company in 1993 and was a founder member of Vodacom’s engineering management team.
Uys played a major role in the first phase of the planning and roll-out of Vodacom’s GSM network, which at the time was the fastest roll-out in the world.
Uys was then responsible for the successful launch of the Vodacom internet company, which quickly became a leading service provider.
Uys has also held the post of the general manager responsible for the company’s South African operations. – I-Net Bridge
