Woman arrested for husband’s murder

The wife and father-in-law of a Polokwane businessman, who has been missing for nearly a month, have been arrested for his murder, Beeld reported on Monday.

The 30-year-old woman has been quoted several times in the Afrikaans daily in the past weeks, pleading with the public to help find her 29-year-old husband and the father of their three children, including a three-month-old baby. They had been married for 11 years.

”My knees are worn through from all the praying,” she told the paper last week.

However the woman and her father were arrested over the weekend after the police found her husband’s body in a shallow grave at Seshego outside Polokwane, said police spokesperson Superintendent Ronel Otto.

The property agent on whose premises the decomposed body was found was also arrested. He was reportedly busy throwing concrete over the grave when the police arrived.

Two weeks ago, the police arrested one of the murdered man’s employees in connection with his disappearance on June 24. The employee was in custody and had been charged with kidnapping.

Police believe the motive for the murder could have been life-insurance money. The businessman, who was a property developer, was also reportedly involved in a failed property deal. – Sapa
