South African gold miner DRDGold on Thursday announced the appointment of a CEO-designate in anticipation of the termination of CEO John Sayers’s contract at the end of 2008.
The company has appointed of Niel Pretorius as CEO-designate and an executive director of the company.
Currently the managing director of DRDGold South Africa, Pretorius takes over as CEO on January 1 2009.
Pretorius inherits a company that is in far better shape than the company his predecessor was handed.
The embattled mining group turned out strong results for the year to end June 2008 when it reported a surge in net profit to R154,4-million from R3,1-million, and adjusted headline earnings from continuing operations up 1 608% from 3,8 cents to 64,9 cents. — I-Net Bridge
