Enquiries into investing in Zimbabwe have increased following a political settlement, the country’s Herald newspaper reported on Tuesday.
There had been an upsurge in foreign investors asking about investment opportunities since Robert Mugabe, Morgan Tsvangirai and Arthur Mutambara appended their signatures to a political settlement, Zimbabwe Investment Authority CEO Richard Mbaiwa told the Herald.
”Although it’s too early to see a definite trend on the investment enquiries, there has been an increase in the number of investors making enquiries about the country following the agreement — and it cannot be coincidence,” Mbaiwa told the newspaper.
Investors had been worried about the political and economic situation in the country, but with the settlement he expected to see ”a stabilisation of the situation”.
Mbaiwa added that most enquiries were coming from South Africans interested in investing in the mining sector.
”The interest from South African companies could be because of their proximity to our country, but we are also continuing with our Look East Policy in the investment drive,” he said. — Sapa
