Free State ‘prophet’ jailed for 18 years

A fake prophet who preyed on Free State women was jailed for 28 years by the Virginia Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, said police.

Ndoyisiwe Paulus Notito, 39, approached his victims pretending to be a prophet who could help them with ”social problems”, said Sergeant Malebo Khosana.

He then took them to isolated areas out of town where he raped them and stole their handbags.

His reign of fear started in Welkom, Odendaalsrus and Kroonstad in 2005. He was arrested in August 2007.

Notito was found guilty on Wednesday of 18 counts ranging from rape to indecent assault, pointing of a firearm and theft.

”I am satisfied with the proceedings. We worked so hard to stop the accused from his bad deeds,” investigating officer Inspector Moyane Monei, of Welkom detective services, said after Notito was sentenced.

”However, we believe that there are other incidents that were not revealed today because the other victims did not report it,” he said, appealing to victims to go to the police so their cases could be pursued. — Sapa
