A South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) Labour Court application to prevent a strike at the public broadcaster was postponed on Friday until next week.
SABC attorney Puke Maserumule said the parties had agreed that there would be no strike until the matter was heard on the new date, June 25.
The Communication Workers’ Union (CWU) and the Media Workers’ Association of South Africa were granted permission to strike by the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) on Thursday over a pay dispute and the crisis at the broadcaster.
The CWU was still canvassing its members over whether to go on strike during the Confederations Cup when the SABC decided to launch Friday’s application to stop a strike.
The matter was postponed because the judge appointed to hear the matter was ill. — Sapa
