Cape Judge President John Hlophe will return to work on Monday, the Justice and Constitutional Development Department said on Wednesday.
Spokesperson Tlali Tlali said Hlophe had written to Justice Minister Jeff Radebe, indicating his imminent return.
This was in response to a letter Radebe had sent to Hlophe on Monday noting the Judicial Services Commission’s decision not to proceed with a probe into allegations that Hlophe tried to influence Constitutional Court judges in the matter relating to President Jacob Zuma.
Radebe also cleared the way for the Cape Judge President to return to the bench in correspondence earlier in the week.
Hlophe was placed on special leave in May 2008 after the Constitutional Court judges lodged the complaint with the JSC. — Sapa
