Africa hosts automation and power conference

ABB’s largest customer event heads to Africa for the first time to introduce customers, channel partners and suppliers to the company’s latest products, solutions and services and show how these can increase energy efficiency and productivity.

This event, Automation and Power World 2009, will take place in Johannesburg from November 11 to 12, emphasising the importance of Africa to ABB’s continued growth and success.

‘The Automation and Power World event has something for everyone, no matter what industry,” said Carlos Poñe, chief executive of ABB South Africa.

‘It is an interactive experience with product demonstrations, technical presentations, business case studies and workshops and ABB is looking forward to engaging with its stakeholders during the event and contributing to their business objectives,” Poñe said.

‘ABB views Africa as an important part of the India, Middle East and Africa (IMA) region that has shown considerable growth in recent years as more countries in sub-Saharan Africa upgrade and increase their electrical infrastructure.

‘ABB South Africa, with a strong manufacturing base and engineering skills, is playing an important role in serving business in the region.”

The two-day event will see more than 500 customers, distributors and channels partners from across Africa attending the trade show and conference to meet ABB’s top management, including group chief executive Joe Hogan.

The displays will cover all ABB’s five divisions and include industry-specific solutions for utilities, process industries, renewable energy, discrete manufacturing and service.

To highlight ABB’s commitment to the environment and energy efficiency, the event will take place at ABB South Africa’s new state-of-the-art head office, in Longmeadow, Johannesburg.

The R500-million building, which opened in early 2009, was built by ABB with energy efficiency in mind and features key green building elements, including solar panels, a grey water recycling system, energy-efficient lighting and temperature control and building automation systems, all developed by ABB.

On day two of the event Hogan will officially inaugurate the Longmeadow head office, manufacturing and logistics centre. — ABB
