Pretoria: Where to eat

From mouthwatering Portuguese food to fresh farm produce and every local’s favourite pizza joint, we bring you the best of Pretoria dining.

Go to Braza for mouthwatering Portuguese, Brazilian, Mozambiquan and Angolan cuisine, sometimes accompanied by a live Puerto Rican band and dancing waiters. You can even dance with the owner — if you enjoy that sort of thing. Favourites include seafood, steak espetadas and chicken peri peri. The restaurant is built to reflect the warmth and hospitality of the Portuguese culture and replicates typical Portuguese kitchens, with its solid wooden tables and rich natural earthy colours.

Toni’s Fully Furnished Pizza Co
In the words of one reviewer, Toni’s is “an unpretentious little joint in suburban Pretoria that serves the best pizza, hands down, outside of Naples”. It comes highly recommended by Pretoria/Tshwane locals, with reasonable prices, too. Bookings – unsurprisingly – are essential.

Cynthia’s Blue Moon
The best thing about Cynthia’s? Private dining rooms for an intimate atmosphere. The restaurant is very popular with Pretoria/Tshwane patrons, who have been eating here for years. Cynthia’s extensive menu and huge selection of carefully selected South African and international wines will satisfy the most discerning tastes.

Irene Country Farm and Tea Garden
This venue in Irene offers something a little bit different. Set in the countryside, fresh farm produce is served as part of their wholesome buffet breakfasts and lunches. It’s great for families, and your children can feed the calves and watch the cows been milked or play on a real tractor. The farm is a delightful stop-over between Pretoria/Tshwane and Johannesburg.
