Durban art picks: August 27 2010

A trio of compelling new exhibitions recently opened at consistently impressive Durban gallery artSPACE durban.

  • All Shades of Brown is a solo exhibition by Durban-born, UK-based artist and activist Sandira Reddy who explores the infinitely complicated question of skin colour in the media of graphic design, photography and fine art. A Time to Love is an exhibition of new work by prolific Durban painter Sibusiso Duma, an erstwhile student of the incomparable Trevor Makhoba, whose signature creations are shrewd comments upon life around him and whose subject matter covers everything from township life to landscapes to witchcraft. The third exbhibition is The Road Less Travelled by Di van Wyk in which the artist links the landscape of the figurative human journey to that of landscapes of a far more physical kind.

artSPACE durban, 3 Millar Road, off Umgeni Road. 10am to 4pm Monday to Friday and from 10am to 1pm on Saturdays and public holidays. The exhibitions run until September 16. Tel: 031 312 0793 Email [email protected] Visit www.artspace-durban.com / www.artspacedurban.blogspot.com
