The University of KwaZulu-Natal’s (UKZN) school of economics and finance recently hosted the second Network for Regional Integration Studies (Netris) seminar, involving African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) states.
Its subject was “Prospects for Trade and Economic Integration in ACP Countries”.
This followed the first Netris seminar in March, at the University of the West Indies, which discussed good governance in relation to regional integration.
UKZN economics lecturer Vanessa Tang presented a paper there on developmental challenges within the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
At the second Netris seminar, Tang and UKZN Emeritus Professor Merle Holden gave a presentation titled “Competitive Bilateralism or Regionalism: A South African Perspective”.
Pamela Koch, a UKZN master’s student in the school of economics, together with Tang and Professor Tennassie Nichola, spoke on food security in the East African community.
Netris is an Edulink project, funded by the European Union and implemented by the African, Caribbean and Pacific secretariat, that aims to establish and coordinate a network of higher education institutions working within the field of comparative regional integration.
