Ukuphuca is the title of a solo exhibition of ceramics and paintings by internationally renowned Soweto-born artist Clive Sithole.

Curated by Nomusa Mtshali, the exhibition reflects Sithole’s remarkable range of creative expression and his ideological concerns with the concept of beauty in a culturally and aesthetically hybridised society in both the local and global contexts.

From his re-invention of traditional ceramics to his creation of raw, abstract drawings and paintings, Sithole is embarked upon a constant quest to ukuphuca (scrape off) the layers of ukuphucuzeka (civilisation). Menzi Mchunu Gallery, BAT Centre, until March 11. Tel: 031 332 0451
