Jo’burg schoolchildren hospitalised

At least 60 learners fell ill at a school in Mulbarton, south of Johannesburg, and were taken to hospital, paramedics said on Thursday.

Pupils were complaining of nausea, stomach cramps and vomiting on Wednesday, Netcare 911 spokesperson Jeff Wicks said.

The children were aged between six and 12.

It was unknown what had caused the symptoms.

“Paramedics calmed and reassured the panicked children whilst facilitating their transport to hospital for further care and investigation,” he said.

Netcare’s Garden City clinic could not immediately provide more information on the children’s conditions. — Sapa
