Jo’burg music picks: April 8 2011

There’s a lot to do in Jo’burg this weekend, if you don’t mind going without sleep for a few days.

  • Rambling Bones are playing at Tanz in Fourways with Naming James and Dance, You’re on Fire play on Friday 8 April.

  • On Saturday 9 April The Woods and Town Hall in Newtown are holding a joint effort with Taxi Violence, The Frown (who are launching their new EP), Desmond & The Tutus, Dance Your On Fire, Double Adapter, Musical Chairs, Rob Sloan and Destrukto. There is also a band from Cape Town with a really strange name (Olinosterfant) who are jamming with Alan! Let’s Move On, The Alchemist and DJ Futeks at Tings n Times in Hatfield.

  • Dramaheads The Brother Moves On are playing alongside DJ’s Bubbles, Kongisto, TrueJones, 1D, Herbalizer, Jimmy Fucking Fingers, Beat Oven and Tsema Boy on Sunday 10 April at a place called Mushroom Loungeatery on the corner of Nelson Mandela and Schoeman roads in Pretoria.

  • If you have a little bit more culture in your veins, you can check out the Bern Conservatory Youth Orchestra from Switzerland who are rocking some Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Liszt and Dick (that’s Leo Dick to you) with members of the SA National Youth Orchestra and The Linder Auditorium on Thursday 14 April.
