Jub Jub murder trial delayed

The trial of murder accused Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye and Themba Tshabalala was delayed in the Protea Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

Defence lawyer Ike Motloung was running late, the court heard.

Wearing “Parents in Action” T-shirts, victims’ relatives sat in the courtroom waiting for the trial to begin.

On Friday, the case was postponed to allow a metro police officer to testify about the two allegedly testing positive for alcohol and drugs after the accident.

Maarohanye and Tshabalala were allegedly drag-racing when one of their Mini Coopers ploughed into a group of schoolchildren on Mdlalose Drive, in Protea North, on March 8 last year.

Four children died in the accident and two others suffered severe injuries, including brain damage.
