Stephen Muzhingi of Zimbabwe secured his third straight Comrades Marathon title in Pietermaritzburg on Sunday morning.
Muzhingi broke away from South African Fanie Matshipa with 14km remaining in the 87km ultra-marathon to cross the line well clear for his first victory in the “up” run.
Matshipa, who had shared the lead with Muzhingi for almost 20km, faded in the closing stages but held on to finish second in 5:34.29.
Another South African, Claude Moshiywa, took third place in 5:42.05. – Sapa
