Shadow of Your Imagination

Shadow Of Your Imagination

Tim Hendricks has been on the South African music scene for almost eight years and, despite keeping himself busy playing in many bands, it is only now we see the release of his debut solo album, Shadow of Your Imagination.

Having spent some time gigging in Los Angeles and London, Hendricks is now shopping his new album around the United States trying to get an international deal and, as the press release that accompanied the CD says, he is moving in influential circles in Hollywood, buddying up to Nicolas Cage’s son Weston Cage, a musician in LA. Hendricks has a great voice and he sounds like an accomplished songwriter too.

Some of the songs reminded me of Dave Matthews and others of late-career Red Hot Chili Peppers. However there are too many sentimental ballads on the album — yes, the type that people raise lighters to in stadiums, which depending on your taste is either a good or bad thing.

From my perspective it’s a bad thing, but then I am hardly Hendricks’s target market. There is no denying Hendricks is a very talented songwriter and if he gets the right breaks he should have a very successful career.
