With the world in such a dreadful state recently, it’s a relief to see that there are two comedy shows to choose from.
? Comedian and actress Shirley Kirchmann (Train Your Man) once more blends theatre and stand-up comedy in her latest one-woman show, Catch.
Meet Tallulah, 32 and single. All her married friends keep trying to hook her up, not because they care about her, but because they don’t like to suffer alone. Join her on this tale of love, dreams, passion and revenge. Catch is directed by Kirchmann’s sister Catherine. “If you are single, or have ever been single, have set up a friend on a date or been set up on a date, or have done internet dating, speed dating, blind dating or all of the above, this show is for you,” says Kirchmann.
Kalk Bay Theatre, 52 Main Road, Kalk Bay, until November 5. To book, phone: 073 220 5430. Website: www.kbt.co.za.
? Alan Committie returns with a new stand-up comedy show, Happily Ever Laughter!! The show includes comedy sketches and some familiar characters. Committie explores everything from royal weddings to Osama bin Laden, including a “do-it-yourself corrupt government” demonstration, what classical music really means, and an extensive look at the Harry Potter movie franchise. But this time his usual one-man format has a difference — it co-stars Jo Galloway.
Theatre on the Bay, 1A Link Street, Camps Bay, from November 1 to 19. Book at Computicket. Tel: 021 438 3301. Website: www.theatreonthebay.co.za.
