Jo’burg cinema pick: December 15 2011

Noodle Box Cinema is a monthly night-time event that takes place at Jo’burg’s Maboneng precinct at Main Street Life.

?The quaint gimmick of the evening is not the fact of a retro-escape into the world of Asian kung fu exploitation cinema. Rather, it is the opportunity to eat a box of noodles while the people onscreen get bashed about. This weekend’s 8pm feature is The Bullet Train — described thus: “In this 1975 classic starring action hero Sonny Chiba, criminals plant a bomb on a high-speed train. It will explode when the train slows down, unless a ransom is paid.” Other highlights of the weekend include a Christmas special double feature of Die Hard at 7pm and Gremlins at 9pm on December 17. On December 18 catch A Christmas Tale at 2.30pm, Elf at 5pm and Kaleidoscope at 7.30pm.

The Bioscope, 286 Fox Street, from December 16 until 18. Tel: 010 007 0119. Website: www.thebioscope.co.za.
