TV presenter Vuyo Mbuli has allegedly reneged on an agreement to pay the Matlosana City Council a share of revenue from a billboard he managed.
Mbuli, his wife Savita, and their company Zazise Communications were ordered by the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria in March to give a full account of the income derived from the billboard since November 2006, the Times reported.
On Friday, the council asked the court to declare Mbuli and his company in contempt of court for failing to comply with the order.
The municipality reportedly intended seeking leave to apply for an order for his imprisonment should he fail to comply.
The council claimed Mbuli, a presenter of SABC 2's Morning Live breakfast show, had agreed to pay it 20% of the income from billboards erected on municipal ground in Klerksdorp from February 2006.
It claimed Zazise had not paid the municipality since November 2006. The court ruled in the council's favour by default, because Mbuli did not file opposing papers in March.
According to the newspaper, the municipality said Mbuli promised it a potential R12 000 a month.
Mbuli told the Times he was aware of the litigation but preferred not to comment. Savita Mbuli said she was no longer involved with the company.
